Different Mennonite groups have their own rules regarding acceptance of things in the Secular World, for example the dress code has become more lenient since I first visited in 2006. This photo was taken in 2012.
A young woman learns to sew a traditional Mennonite dress. The blue jeans the young woman wears is a glimpse of the reforms taking place within and around the Old Colony Mennonites.
Some Old Colony Mennonite adults believe that the benefit of dentures (no more dental pain) makes them a preferable alternative to maintaining one's own oral health.
The Local Dentist
A one-room dentist office, approximately 450 x 450 sq. ft., the waiting room and patient dental chair share the same space.
Within the colony setting self-trained midwives, chiropractors, massage therapists; herbalists, dentists and other unlicensed workers are accessed in times of need.
